Course description

This course combines classroom Spanish learning with cultural experiences in Gandía. Students take part in dynamic small-group classes, enjoy cooking workshops, visits to historical sites and outdoor activities, and interact with the local community to practise the language in real-life situations. They also have free time to enjoy the beach, gastronomy and Mediterranean lifestyle.

Programme adaptation: The objectives and content are adapted to the student’s linguistic and cultural interests and their communication needs in contexts relating to Mediterranean culture.

Entry requirements

To take this course, students must provide evidence that they have successfully completed level A2. The initial assessment helps guide placement and adapt the programme to their needs.

Grouping: private classes or groups of 2 to 6 students, with a programme adapted to their objectives.

Objectives

  • General objective: Integrate Spanish language learning with experiential immersion in Gandía’s Mediterranean culture and lifestyle, fostering intercultural competence and real communication in formal and informal contexts.
  • Specific learning objectives:
  • Develop listening, speaking and spoken interaction skills practically through communicative tasks linked to cultural activities, food workshops and historical visits.
  • Provide students with the linguistic and pragmatic resources needed to interact independently with the local community in everyday situations.
  • Foster active knowledge of the Mediterranean area’s heritage, traditions and sociocultural environment.

Content

  • The content programme and sequence are structured according to the inventories of the Instituto Cervantes Curriculum Plan (PCIC), combining language content with cultural knowledge:
  • Grammar and functional content: Study and practice of morphosyntactic structures and communicative functions corresponding to the student’s CEFR level, applied to everyday life and sociocultural situations (expressing opinions, describing places, making suggestions, interacting in shops and at events).
  • Lexical and notional content: Specific vocabulary relating to Mediterranean gastronomy, tourism, historical heritage, nature and leisure and free-time activities.
  • Referential and sociocultural content: Knowledge, customs, politeness norms, social interaction conventions and cultural references specific to the local community of Gandía and the Spanish-speaking world.
  • Learning procedures and practical tasks: Direct language immersion strategies through active participation in cooking workshops, guided visits to historical sites and interactive walks around the town.

Assessment

  • Diagnostic assessment (initial): A compulsory placement test (in person or online) before the start to ensure that students are placed in the appropriate group.
  • Formative and continuous assessment: Regular monitoring of language progress through participation in practical activities, interaction during cultural activities, feedback from teaching staff and academic tutorials.
  • Summative assessment and certification: Achievement of objectives is assessed at the end of the course. To obtain the certificate of achievement and level, attendance at a minimum of 80 % of in-person classes and compliance with the centre’s rules of behaviour are essential requirements.

The certificate identifies the specific course taken, its teaching hours and achievement. Passing this course does not in itself amount to completing a general CEFR level.

Course certificates are issued by Hablo itself. The progress tests and assessments required to obtain them are internal and created by the teaching team; they are not official DELE or SIELE certification exams.

Materials

  • Teaching and technology resources: In-house materials developed by the teaching team focusing on local heritage and Mediterranean culture, as well as interactive digital resources integrated into classrooms (screens/televisions and multimedia support).
  • Reference textbooks and cultural guides: A selection of textbooks aligned with CEFR levels and the PCIC, complemented by cultural guides and packs developed for practical activities and workshops, purchased separately by the student and available at the school.
